Because my posting has been sporadic recently, I’ve decided that this dry spell may provide an opportune moment in which to upgrade to a more recent version of Movable Type.
In the past, MT upgrades have proved less than smooth and uncomplicated. So, Curious Mind Garden may appear broken for a bit. I will be working to fix the issues behind the scenes. Once the transition is complete, I will begin posting again.
Here is my review of Shannon Hayes’ Radical Homemakers: Reclaiming Domesticity from a Consumer Culture.
Bottom line: This is a very thought-provoking book. While I will probably not change my lifestyle dramatically, I will definitely question what motivates my purchasing choices more closely and probably re-evaluate the real necessity of some of those purchases.
Here is my review of Jacob Needleman’s What is God?
Bottom line: This book is a memoir of a philosopher’s discovery of God. What I found most interesting is the breadth of religious and philosophical ideas that Needleman’s journey traverses and, to some extent, unifies.
A mother cat was dumped on our property and promptly took up residence in one of our stalls. Because we have a problem with coyotes and disappearing cats, I could not leave well enough alone. For the past month, I’ve been preoccupied with humanely trapping the mother and each of her kittens as I discovered them. To date, the mother has been spayed and relocated to a safer locale where she is rapidly becoming accustom to humans and canned cat food, not necessarily in that order.
As of two days ago, I believe that I have finally caught all of her kittens. While they are old enough to be away from their mother, they need socialization and are living in my office. Given that three adult cats and three juvenile sons already occupy my home, we are pretty close to pandemonium a good part of each day. Nevertheless, the kittens are very sweet.
